£1000 Winner
The winner of the £1000 “squares” competition was decided at the recent Fun Day. The winner was randomly chosen by Howie who hit a ball into a grid of 100 numbered squares. The ball pitched in square 43 which belonged to Jim Wallace.
Fun Sixes and Junior Prizegiving
The fun sixes and junior prizegiving marked the end of the 2008 season on Sunday 14th September. Eight teams competed in the sixes and the eventual winners were the “The Forfarshire Falcons” who comprised Ted, Bryce, Christian, Blair, Cameron and Paul.
At the prizegiving that followed, certificates were presented to the juniors who participated in the Skills Evening earlier in the season and the cricketers who participated in both Kwik Cricket and mini-Hardball teams during the season were presented with medals and Broughty Ferry Round Table Junior Shield which is awarded annually by the round table for services to a club. David was named the “Most Improved Junior” and also won the JR Auchinleck shield, awarded on merit each year by Dick, for his achievement of scoring his first century at senior level, for Forthill XI against Coupar Angus. Kevin was presented with the under 15 batting and bowling trophies, followed by Scott C who collected the same awards but at under 13 level.
3rd Team Player of the Year
Forthill XI marked the end of a highly successful season with their annual trip to the MegaBowl followed by a meal at the Gulistan, on Friday night and the announcement of the player of the year. Jaleez was awarded this years trophy following a number of economical spells throughout the year, and most noteably a spell of 4 for 34 from 9 overs in one of season’s high points, the win at Aberfeldy. This years ten pin bowling prizes went to Dennis and Simmy jnr.
Weekend Results - 6th/7th September
Forthill XI visited Doo’cot Park on Saturday to play Northern in the penultimate league game of the season - and brought home 25 points after Northern were restricted to 182 for 8 in 45 overs despite being on course for a 200+ total mid way through their innings. Pick of the bowlers was Andy with 3 for 24 from 9 overs. In response, Forthill XI lost an early wicket when Dalts was bowled, but this brought Goose and Elliot together and they frustrated the steady home attack with a 131 run 2nd wicket partnership in 26 overs. Goose fell for a well constructed 52 but Elliot went on to reach 80 not out when the winning runs were scored. scorecard
Sunday saw Northern visit Forthill. The drizzle cleared just in time to allow a 40-over game to start and with Norwood’s key batsmen dismissed early, the visitors crept up to 121 for 8. In reply, Elliot kept his run of form going with 57 while 43 not out from Aman hit saw the league season end with a convincing home win. Forthill XI finished in 5th place with 9 wins from 14 starts in a strong league. scorecard
Weekend Results - 30th/31st August
Forthill XI travelled to Largo on Saturday for what has become an annual friendly. Choosing to bat first, Largo hit 174 for 8 in 40 overs with Adees (2 for 16) and Andy (2 for 22) being the pick of the bowlers. A 3rd wicket partnership of 90 between (Aman 75) and Elliot (59) saw Forthill on their way to victory after a losing both openers cheaply.
Sunday’s league match against DHSFP XI started in poor weather conditions and after 38 overs the rain became too heavy and play was abandoned with DHS sitting on 162 for 2. scorecard and report
Weekend Results - 23rd/24th August
Forfarshire lost to Aberdeenshire at Mannofield on Saturday to end hopes of an appearance in the SNCL premier division play-off. At Forthill, Mannofield completed a six wicket win in a match reduced to 35 overs-a-side due to torrential rain earlier in the week. On Sunday, Forthill XI lost to Stoneywood-Dyce.
Batting first in Aberdeen, Howie (44 from 112 balls) and Ryan (33 from 56 balls) gave Forfarshire a solid start with an 80 run opening partnership in 22 overs. When Ryan fell to a good outfield catch, Tom hit 93 from 76 deliveries including five 4s and five 6s to accelerate the scoring rate. Forfarshire finished on 219 for 6 in 50 overs.
For the second week running, Richie gave Forfs a great start by taking two early wickets, and at 7 for 2 the game looked set to be a close one, but Aberdeenshire’s pro Astle (102 not out from 123 balls) and amateur McGilliewie (64 from 64 balls) combined to put on 129 for the fourth wicket and took the game from Forfarshire after a promising start. scorecard
Forthill batted first against Mannofield on a very soft Forthill wicket, and crept up to 131 for 9 in a 35 over game thanks to 31 from Dennis, 25 from Tony and 21 from Chic. Mannofield lost both openers for single figures before 45 apiece for Cross and Fraunstein saw Mannofield home comfortably with 6 wickets and 11 overs remaining. scorecard
Forthill XI took on Stoneywood/Dyce XI at Forthill on Sunday, and posted a respectable 192 on a slow wicket. Clark top-scored with 73 along with useful contributions from Finbar (24), Simmy jnr (20) and Dean (18). The home attacked struggled to make much impact on the visitors batting, the winning runs being scored in the 30th over with Leask 95 not out and pro Hameetman 85 not out. scorecard

Weekend Results - 16th / 17th August
Forfarshire travelled to Boghall on Saturday and after a late start collected another 10 points, winning by 67 runs in a 35 over game while Forthill won by 8 wickets over Perthshire at Forthill. Also on Saturday, Forthill XI lost to Strathearn by 6 wickets at Doo’cot Park.
West Lothian asked Forfarshire to bat first in damp conditions at Boghall in a match reduced to 35 overs a side. Howie (23) and Ryan (51 off 69 balls) gave Forfarshire a good start with an opening partnership worth 59 before Ryan and Tom (51 off 42 balls) took the total up to 130 before the second wicket fell. From 130 for 2, Robert (27) and Umair (24) both added late innings runs to see Forfarshire finish on 208 for 6. Richie gave Forfs the ideal start with two wickets in the first over before taking a third a few overs later to see West Lothian 13 for 3. Tom (3 for 24) and Tom (2 for 29) accounted for the middle order as the home side looked to be heading for a sub-100 total, only for a last wicket partnership to frustrate the bowlers and add 57 before Blackie claimed the last wicket. scorecard
Perthshire recovered from 82 for 5 to post a total of 185 for 9 at Forthill, Dennis taking 2 for 13, along with 2 for 20 from Warren and 2 for 39 from Ted. In reply, LJ marked his last game of the season with a will timed 92 in a century opening partnership with Warren (46) before Tony 35 not out from Tony saw the winning runs scored in the 29th over. scorecard
Forthill XI were bowled out for 148 by Strathearn at Doo’cot Park on Saturday, Elliot top-scoring with 49 not out along with useful contributions of 31 from Finbar and 25 from Dean. Strathearn lost four wickets on the way to passing the Forthill total, Dean taking all four in a fine 9 over spell. scorecard
The Centenary Cup match between DHSFP and Forfarshire was cancelled as DHSFP were unable to raise a team.
Forthill XI Win Two Counties Cup
Forthill XI won the Two Counties Cup at Doocot Park on Thursday night by defeating Falkland XI by 7 wickets - only the third time in the competitions 50 year history that the trophy has been held by Forthill XI, the previous wins being in 1980 and 1984.
Falkland batted first and got off to a good start, reaching 64 for 2 in the 9th over, but tight final overs from all the bowlers saw the run rate reduced as Falkland finished on 116 for 7 in 20 overs. In reply, Dalts (58 not out) led the batting, with Clark (22) and Andy (15) both adding valuable runs as Forthill XI overtook the visitors total in dark conditions with one over remaining.

Scotland Cap for Priyanaz
Priyanaz has become the first club member to gain a cap for the Scotland Womens team. After several fine performances for the national under 17 team against Yorkshire, Priyanaz was selected for the recent Scotland v Durham match in the ECB Womens County Cup. Yorkshire scorecards Durham scorecard
Forthill Win Three Counties Cup
Forthill have won the Three Counties Cup by defeating Aberdeen Grades Select by 9 wickets at Lochlands on Tuesday night – the first time since 1981 that Forthill have picked up the trophy, and for only the sixth time in the clubs history.
Grades innings started rapidly, with 24 scored from the first three overs, but after ten overs the scoreboard read 52 for 5. A faultless display of ground fielding and catching saw Grades bowled out for 109, with Dougie, Ted, Pratik and Blackie all taking 2 wickets. After the loss of Craig for 16 in the fourth over, Warren (56 not out) and Tony (29 not out) saw Forthill home, the winning runs coming in the seventeenth over.

Forfarshire Under 11s Runners up at Stirling
Forfarshire under 11s were runners up in the John Cooper Competition held at Stirling on Sunday 3rd August.
In the group games, Forfarshire won against Dunfermline and Stirling to qualify for a semi-final place against Ferguslie who were the holders of the trophy and had beaten Arbroath (the eventual winners) in the group A games. They looked to be the most professional team and had some very good players. The Forfarshire boys bowling and fielding was excellent and held Ferguslie down to a manageable total. Scott C batted extremely well and scored 11 off the last over to win a very close game, and a meeting with Arbroath in the final.
Unfortunately the bowling let us down in the final, with too many runs given away and we were left to chase a big total. At one stage it looked as if we might win, Scott C contributing at least 20 runs. All the Forfarshire batsmen tried hard to chase down the total with some big hits, but a few late wickets meant the momentum was lost.
The boys had an excellent day out and came home with runners up medals.
The team was: Scott, Finlay, Blair, Cameron, Sean, Christian, Jordan and Ross.

Weekend Results - 2nd / 3rd August
Forfarshire won by 32 runs at Arbroath on Saturday (2nd August) and at Forthill, the second team completed the double over Arbroath by winning the second team battle by 108 runs. Forthill XI’s trip to St.Andrews on Sunday (3rd August) was cut short when a thunderstorm early in the second innings ended play for the day.
The heavy rains of last week meant the Lochlands wicket was not easy to score quickly on, and at 105 for 5 in the 36th over, a partnership was needed to push the total up to a competitive one. Umair (36) and Drummy (18 not out) responded by putting on 48 for the 7th wicket to see Forfarshire finish on 179 for 8 in 50 overs.
Dougie took a sharp return catch to remove Arbroath’s Petrie with the total on 27 and from there on Forfarshire took wickets regularly to keep control of the game. Quinno bowled another tight 10 overs, taking 2 for 21 including pro Johnston from his first ball, before Umair’s 3 for 26 saw the run rate rising to over 8 in the last few overs of the game. This proved too many, and Arbroath were all out for 147 in the 47th over. scorecard video photos
Forthill batted first against Arbroath Utd XI, and Warren continued his good run of form with another century (115 not out) in Forthill’s total of 234 for 5 in 45 overs. Dennis marked his return from holiday with 42, while Gav pushed the score along at the end of the innings with 25. The Forthill opening attack of Sam and LJ both picked up wickets to see Arbroath’s openers back in the pavilion early in the second innings, LJ going on to take 4 for 23 from 9 overs. Kinloch batted first at the St.Andews University grounds on an extremely wet wicket. Kinloch eased their way to 137 for 9, the wickets being shared by Henry (2 for 19), Dean (2 for 19) and Jinglis (2 for 21). When a thunderstorm hit the ground after 12 overs of the second innings, Forthill XI were 22 for 3, and the already wet wicket flooded, play was abandoned. scorecard
Area Under 11 Hardball Tournament
The Area under 11 Hardball Tournament was held at Kinross on Thursday 24th July. Dundee lost by 3 runs to Perth & Kinross in the 1st game, and had the Dundee bowling been as good as the batting, the result could have been different. Dundee then beat Fife by 35 runs. Everyone played really well especially the bowling. Fife were out 8 times, and Dundee only lost 2 wickets in the game.
In the last game, Angus scored 294. Dundee started slowly and were behind the run rate needing 46 from the last 4 overs. Finlay and Cameron were the last pair to bat and against some good bowling managed to put on 30 runs in 3 overs, leaving 16 needed from the last over. A 4 off the first ball and then a quick single from Finlay, then a great drive through mid wicket for 4 off the last ball from Cameron unfortunately left the team still 7 runs short of a win.

Forfarshire won by 78 runs at Stenhousemuir on Saturday (26th July) and now sit in 2nd place of SNCL division 1, six points ahead of 3rd placed West of Scotland, and fourteen points behind leaders Aberdeenshire. Forthill lost to Huntly by 6 wickets in a high scoring game at Forthill despite having set the visitors 276 to win. Forthill’s friendly against Dunfermline on Sunday (27th July) completed the high scoring weekend, Forthill winning by 8 wickets.

Forfarshire chose to bat first at The Tryst, and a 156 run 2nd wicket partnership between Howie (110 not out from 140 balls) and Tom (92 from 85 balls) saw the Forfs on their way to their highest SNCL total of the year. When Tom fell with the score on 191, Robert wasted no time in playing a few shots and his 42 from 35 balls along with some good striking from Howie saw the total race past 250 and on to 296 for 4 in 50 overs.
Stenhousemuir’s batting line-up had the potential to chase down the target, and a 50 run opening partnership from Ferrier and Rakshit saw them start well, but the introduction of Quinno into the attack in the 7th over claimed the wickets of Stenny’s top four in an accurate spell that returned figures of 4 for 27 from 10 overs. Forfarshire were firmly on top at the half-way stage, the home total sitting on 112 for 5. From there the required rate never looked like being challenged, and Stenhousemuir finished on 218 for 9 after 50 overs. scorecard
Forthill posted an impressive 275 for 8 against Huntly on Saturday, Warren hitting 167 and Greg 32. In reply, Huntly’s pro Ali batted throughout their innings for 142 not out and was well supported by Howard (54) and Massie (39) to see the winnings runs scored with 2 overs remaining. scorecard
Dunfermline XI brought a mixture of youth and experience to Forthill on Sunday, and after 45 overs had scored 254 for 6, Ingram hitting 90 in addition to 72 from opener Pegg. Robert (115) and Gav (41) opened for the home team, and Robert continued his good form from Saturday by hitting seventeen 4s and three 6s to take his score past 100 in just the 14th over. Dougie (42 not out) and Elliot (38 not out) finished the game in quick style, with 17 overs remaining.
Weekend Results - 19th / 20th July
Forfarshire defeated Stirling County at Forthill on Saturday (19th July) however the 2nd team visit to Rossie Priory was cancelled due to rain. Sunday (20th July) saw Forthill XI win a close game with DHSFP XI.
Forfarshire bowled and fielded well to restrict Stirling County to a total of 215 for 7 after a 74 run opening partnership between Anderson (111 not out) and Miller (27) looked to be setting the visitors for a more challenging total. Bowling at first change, Quinno’s 10 overs conceded only 22 runs and along with 8 tight overs from Umair (1 for 23) and 3 for 36 from Ryan, the visitors scoring rate was kept in check.
A 2nd wicket partnership of 54 between Tom (101 not out) and Ryan (39) set Forfarshire up for a successful run chase, but at 106 for 3, the game looked evenly poised until a 4th wicket partnership of 62 between Craig (19) and Tom turned the game in Forfarshire’s favour. A quick 19 not out from Aman took Forfs to within a few runs of victory, allowing Tom to bring up his 3rd SNCL ton and the winning runs with the same shot. scorecard photos video
DHSFP XI visited Forthill on Sunday and a bright start from the visitors suggested they would be setting a 200 plus total, but when Gav (3 for 20) knocked over K.Ancell’s off-stump quickly followed by 2 more wickets, Forthill XI were able to restrict the total to 164 for 8. Forthill XIs good rstart to their reply was undone when the middle order were dismissed rapidly, leaving 60 needed for victory with 3 wickets left. Gav (41 not out) and Mo (27 not out) responded well to the challenge and the winning runs were scored in the 43rd over without any further wickets falling. scorecard and report
Forthill XI Reach Two Counties Cup Final
Forthill XI won a last ball thriller against Brechin on Thursday night (17th July) to secure a place in the Two Counties Cup final. Batting first, Forthill reached 114-6 in 20 overs. Elliot's nerve was tested as he bowled the final over with 8 needed, Henry having bowled two tight final overs from the other end to keep the game alive. The last ball saw two needed but only one was scored as Jalees and Goose combined to run out Brechin's Mitchell.

Weekend Results - 12th / 13th July
Saturday (12th July) saw Forfarshire win in dramatic fashion against Penicuik at Kirkhill, while at Forthill, the second team were comfortable winner over Strathmore. Results on sunday (13th July) didn't go to the same plan, Forfarshire losing by 4 runs to Dunfermline in the Caledonia regional final of the Murgitroyd 20/20 and Forthill XI losing to St.Modans at Forthill.
Penicuik were asked to bat first in damp conditions and were dismissed for 88, LJ taking 4 for 14. From ball one, Ryan looked to play attacking shots and despatched the home attack all round the ground to see Forfarshire win by 10 wickets in the 9th over. His 77 not out came from just 36 balls and included five 6s. At the other end, Howie finished on 7 not out from 19 balls.
Forthill posted an impressive 258 for 8 against Strathmore in a match reduced to 40 overs due to rain. At 31 for 2 after 5 overs, a partnership was needed, and a century from Warren (104) along with 72 from Chic saw 169 added before the 4th wicket fell. A four wicket spell from Blackie, including two stumpings for Buts helped reduce Strathie to 77 for 5 after 24 overs. From then on the increasing run rate proved too much for the visiting batsman, and despite 39 from M.Stewart, batting at number 7, Strathie fell well short to finish on 167 for 9 after their 40 overs. scorecard video
From the first over of their innings, St.Modans dispatched any wayward deliveries to the boundary in their match against Forthill XI on Sunday. Dean, Kevin and Glenn all took two wickets each, but it was tight spells from Gav and Finbar that restricted the visitors from an even higher score. The required rate give the Forthill batsmen little room for error, and only Finbar (42) and Clark (39) managed to take on the visiting attack before Simmy (25) and Elliot (19) took the home total past 150 to secure valuable batting points. scorecard and report
At Lochide Park on Sunday, Forfarshire lost to Dunfermline in the regional final of the Mugitroyd 20/20 competition. Dunfermline hit 152 for 5 in their 20 overs, Dougie taking 3 for 25 in his 4 overs. A 99 run opening partnership between Ryan and Robert looked to have Forfarshire on course for an appearance in the national finals and going in to the last over, 11 were needed for victory - but only 6 were scored.

Forfarshire are saddened to announce the death of Alan Hill. Alan was an enthusiastic and valued Junior Convenor and will be missed by all at the club. Ian Reoch pays tribute here
Weekend Results - 5th & 6th July
The weekend saw all three senior teams win their league matches, but Forfarshire lost to Penicuik on Sunday (6th July) to end their Scottish Cup run. Forfarshire and West of Scotland now both sit on 77 points from 11 matches in the SNCL division 1 league table, 14 points behind leaders Aberdeenshire. Forthill won by 5 wickets at Meigle, and Forthill XI completed the weekend with a good win over Coupar Angus.
West of Scotland chose to bat first at Forthill on Saturday, and openers Lockhart (92) and Watson (33) put on 84 for the first wicket. Despite having wickets in hand going into the last 20 overs, the Forfs kept the visitors run rate under control and they finished on 215 for 5 in 50 overs. In reply, the early loss of Ryan brought Tom to the wicket and his brilliant 142 not out from just 97 balls including seventeen 4s and five 6s saw Forfarshire home with 9 overs to spare. scorecard video photos
Forthill made their second visit in as many days to Victory Park on Saturday to take on Meigle. Warren (51) was the only batsman to make any impact as Forthill were all out for 142. Blackie's three wicket spell along with two wickets each for LJ and Andy then reduced Meigle to 70 all out to keep their league title hopes alive.
On Sunday, Forthill made the short trip to Coupar Angus and the home batsmen took first use of the lively artificial wicket. Any loose loose deliveries were punished by the opening pair and they put on 45 before a good catch by Butts on the deep square-leg boundary removed danger-man Sutherland for 34. Glenn's spell of 3 for 26 towards the end of the innings along with 3 for 24 from Dean saw the home team bowled out for 189. Butts and Gav fell early in the Forthill XI run-chase, but Goose hit the ball sweetly from the first ball of his innings, forcing Clark into an unfamiliar support role as the scoreboard moved swiftly along. Forfarshire posted 243 for 8 in their Scottish Cup quarter final against Penicuik at Forthill on Sunday thanks to the combined efforts of Tony (57 not out from 54 balls), Craig (62 off 92 balls), Tom (43 from 41 balls) and Howie (40 from 86 balls) with Craig and Howie sharing a first wicket partnership of 98. A semi-final place looked to be within reach until a quickfire 47 not out from Willie Morton took the game from Forfarshire, as Penicuik hit 92 from the last 10 overs to win by 5 wickets. scorecard and report
Forfarshire Reach Murgitroyd 20/20 Regional Final
Forfarshire have reached the final of the Caledonia section of the Murgitroyd national 20/20 competition, and will play either Dunfermline or Stoneywood-Dyce in the regional final at Lochside Park, Forfar on Sunday 13th July. Dunfermline and Stoneywood will play their semi-final on the same day, at 1.30pm, with the final scheduled for 4.30pm.
The semi-final against Arbroath saw Forfarshire batting first at Lochlands on Wednesday night, Tony top scoring with 38 not out as the Forfs reached 110 for 7 in 20 overs. In reply, Arbroath looked to be cruising to victory at 64 for 1 in the 10th over, but when Blackie took the wickets of Parker and Burnett in quick succession, the game turned and going into the final over Arbroath required six to win with two wickets remaining. The game ended with the scores level, but Forfarshire proceeded to the final having lost fewer wickets.

Forthill to Play Aberdeen Grades in Three Counties Cup Final
Forthill will play Aberdeen Grades Select in the final of the Three Counties Cup, having defeated Strathearn by 10 runs in their semi-final at Meigle on Thursday night.
Craig (45) and Warren (35) put on 88 in a 14 over opening partnership in tricky batting conditions, Forthill finishing on 118 for 4 in 20 overs. Strathearn started well thanks to a run-a-ball 38 from Patton but Ted (3 for 33) and Dougie (3 for 20) put the brakes on the Strathearn chase, and they finished on 108 for 8.

Weekend Results 28th / 29th June
Forfarshire lost to Drumpellier on Saturday (28th June) but found form again on Sunday to secure seven wicket Scottish Cup round two win over Aberdeenshire. Forthill and Forthill XI continued their good form with league wins over Cupar and Norwood.

Forthill travelled to Cupar on Saturday and got back to winning ways with a 9 wicket win. At Dawson Park, a century from Dalts (115) along with 46 from Goose and 32 from Elliot put Forthill XI in the driving seat against Norwood as they hit 285 for 9 in their 45 overs. In reply, Norwood started quickly and kept up with the required rate in the early part of their innings but once Yearworth fell for 23 caught and bowled by Elliot, and Bayer (79) was stumped off the bowling of Jalees, the run chase fell away and Norwood were bowled out for 218, Elliot finishing with 4 for 58 and Harjinder 3 for 12. scorecard
Aberdeenshire returned to Forthill on Sunday for a second attempt at playing the Scottish Cup round two tie against Forfarshire. Sam and Quinno both took two wickets during their opening 10-over spells before Dougie (4 for 43) blew away the Aberdeenshire middle order and reduced them to 126 all out in the 37th over. Weekend Results - 21st/22nd June
Saturday (21st June) saw a three senior teams in action, and results did not go as hoped. Forfarshire lost to Aberdeenshire by an agonising 1 run at Forthill, while in Aberdeen, Forthill lost to Mannofield by 5 wickets and Forthill XI lost to Stoneywood/Dyce by 6 wickets.
Aberdeenshire chose to bat first at Forthill and were scoring at a good rate when two wickets in consecutive overs from Umair (2 for 37) along with a run out saw them reduced to 92 for 4 after 22 overs. From there, the visitors score crept up towards 200 before Howie (2 for 25) removed the tail and Aberdeenshire were all out for 197. In reply, Howie and Tom fell early but Ryan (62) and Robert (36) batted well together to take the score up to near 100. Needing 36 from 8 overs, it came down to 5 runs needed from the last ball which Gally hit for 4, Forfarshire finishing just 1 run short of victory. scorecard and report
At Mannofield, five Forthill batsmen past 30 to see 207 for 7 scored in 45 overs, Dougie top scoring with a quickfire 41 in the last few overs. Home pro Fraunstein held the Mannofield innings together with 84 and by the time we was dismissed, LBW to Blackie, the remaining runs were knocked off without trouble in what was just the second loss for Forthill in a very successful first half of the season. scorecard and report
At Peoples Park, Forthill XI lost their opening pair quickly but Finbar (37) and Andy (30) batted well to recover the situation to set a strong Stoneywood/Dyce team 160 to win. Forfarshire Reach Regional 20/20 Semi-Final
Forfarshire are through to the regional semi-finals of the Murgitroyd national 20/20 competition following a 68 run win over Strathmore at Forthill on Tuesday 17th June.
115 run opening partnership between Ryan (81 off 41 balls, 9 fours, 4 sixes) and Robert (41 from 30 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes) set Forfarshire up for a high total, with Umair (23 off 18) and Tony (14 off 8) adding good runs towards the end of the innings.
In reply, a tight opening spell by Sam followed by 4 for 19 from Richie saw the run rate increase beyond the Strathie batsmen and they ended on 120 for 7.

Weekend Results - 14th / 15th June
Victories for all three teams at the weekend sees Forfarshire and Forthill XI both moving up to second position in their league tables, with Forthill currently in third place.
At Forthill on Saturday, Sam's opening spell of 3 for 34 helped reduce West Lothian to 18-3 after 8 overs, but a 4th wicket partnership of 131 between McOscar (77) and van Wyk (62) rescued the innings. A direct hit from Howie saw McOscar run out and a short while later van Wyk was caught behind by Drummy off the Howie’s bowling. Dixon’s 38 not out took the visitors total up to 222 for 6 at the end of 50 overs. A quick 33 from Ryan (29 balls) gave Forfarshire a good start to their chase, before Tom (102 not out from 79 balls) and Howie (76 not out from 137 balls) continued their great form of late with another match-winning partnership. At Perth on Saturday, Forthill found the North Inch surface tricky at times, but Warren adjusted well to the conditions and hit 82 which along with a useful 34 from Dennis saw 232 for 9 scored in 45 overs.
Forthill were on top early in the second innings after Doug (4 for 34) had Ferguson caught behind by Craig for 8, quickly followed by three more wickets to remove Perths top order, only Barnsley (77) making any impact for the home team. Forthill XI entertained Kinloch at Forthill on Sunday in a game that mirrored the previous days Forfarshire fixture in some ways. Mo’s opening spell of 3 for 27 saw Kinloch in trouble at 20 for 3, before Stoops (57) and Varun (27) restored credibility to the visitors score – their partnership also being ended by a run out. The late introduction of Finbar quickly removed the Kinloch tail, his 4 for 20 seeing them bowled out for 160. In reply, Finbar and Gav came together with the score on 49 for 2 in the 16th over and with Gav (91 not out) hitting his highest score to date for the club along with 38 not out from Finbar, their 112 runs partnership saw Forthill home with ease in the 34th over. scorecard and report
Forfarshire v Arbroath 20/20
Forfarshire took on Arbroath in a 20/20 Challenge Match at Forthill on Thursday 12th June, Forfarshire winning by 11 runs.
The match was played in true 20/20 style with a white ball, blackened sight-screens and coloured clothing - and the same is hoped to be repeated when Strathmore visit on Tuesday night in round 2 of the Murgitroyd national 20/20 knockout.

Weekend Results - 7th / 8th June
Forfarshire, Forthill XI, the Beach Boys at Elie and the under 15s were all winners for the club this weekend. Forfarshire won by 9 wickets at Freuchie and followed that with a 6 run Scottish Cup win over premier division Ayr on Sunday 8th June. Forthill XI took maximum points in a 27 run win over Breadalbane while the club's beach cricketers had a successful trip to Elie. The under 15s made the long journey to Huntly on Saturday and were rewarded with a 7 wicket win.
After Tom bowled Freuchie opener Cowan with the total on 18, the Forfs took wickets at regular intervals and only a late surge saw the home team pass 150. Two wickets each for Tom, Ryan and Howie backed up by a sharp performance in the field saw Freuchie bowled out for 177. In reply, Ryan fell with the score on 24, but after that an assured partnership of 154 between Tom (80 not out) and Howie (71 not out) led Forfarshire to their target in the 37th over. scorecard and report - photos - video
At Forthill, the 2nd team lost their first match of the season, going down by 7 wickets to DHSFP. Batting first, Craig and Warren showed some initial resistance to the visitors bowling attack but it took late order runs from Pratik to get Forthill up to 146 all out. DHSFP knocked of the runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Forthill XI travelled to the picturesque Victoria Park in Aberfeldy on Sunday to taken on Breadalbane. Having arrived before the wicket had been cut, Forthill batted cautiously to start with before Clark (99) combined well with Goose (27) and Elliot (31 not out) to see a respectable 236-7 scored. The powerful Breadalbane batting line-up were kept in check for the early part of the innings, and with wickets taken at key stages of the game, the home team required 140 from the last 20 overs with 7 wickets left. A hard hit 42 from J.Brunt including five 6s and two 4s appeared to take the game away from Forthill XI, but an excellent spell of 4-34 from 9 overs by Jaleez changed the game, and Forthill XI collected a well deserved 25 points. scorecard and report
Forfarshire travelled to Alloway on Sunday for the replay of their Scottish Cup round 1 tie against against Ayr. Batting first, Tom recorded his first century for the club with 129 as Forfarshire hit 261-8, Aman providing good support with a well timed 30. Ayr's chase was led by Horne (121) and all the way through the run-chase it looked liked the game would go down to the last few overs. Weekend Results - 31st May / 1st June
Saturday’s fair weather brought the largest crowd of the season to Forthill and Forfarshire responded with an 8 wicket win over Arbroath while in the reverse 2nd team game at Lochlands, Forthill extended their unbeaten run with a 56 run win. Forthill XI’s match against Coupar Angus and Forfarshire’s Scottish Cup tie against Ayr were both abandoned due to rain.
After winning the toss and batting, the Arbroath top order were removed before any significant partnerships were established, only McGill (35) and Burnett (30) spending much time in the middle. Aman hit a good line and length early in his spell, taking 3 wickets with his first 15 balls while conceding only 4 runs as Arbroath were all out for an under par 156.
Howie continued his fine form with 41 from 84 balls and along with Ryan (26 from 44 balls) put on 56 for the first wicket to set Forfarshire up for a comfortable victory. At Lochlands, Tony recorded his first century for the club as he hit 105 in Forthill’s total of 235-8. After being reduced to 1-2, Craig (45) and Tony batted well to put the innings back on track, with 80 runs scored in the last 11 overs. Weekend Results 24th/25th May
In another winning weekend for the club, all three senior teams recorded wins in their league matches, Forfarshire defeating Stenhousemuir by 74 runs at Forthill on Saturday while Forthill’s 49 run win at Huntly sees them unbeaten for the season. Forthill XI completed the hat-trick with a 97 run win over Northern at Forthill on Sunday.
Forfarshire raced to 93 for 1 inside of 18 overs against Stenhousemuir before 5 wickets fell to turn the game on its head at 107-6 after 24 overs. A 7th wicket partnership of 42 between Tom (66 off 82 balls) and Chic (49* off 75 balls) repaired some of the damage and when Tom was out bowled, Richie’s 43 off 38 balls in a 79-run partnership with Chic saw Forfarshire finish on a healthy 242-9, although some runs short of what it should of been.
Stenny’s openers looked comfortable until Quinno removed them in consecutive overs and see the total 24-2 after 11 overs. The introduction of Tom into the attacked brought a further 2 quick wickets, and at 66-4 after 22 overs, the visitors looked unlikely to reach their target. Two wickets in 3 balls from Umair put the Forfs firmly in control, and only 10th and 11th wicket partnerships of 37 and 27 gave the visitors any chance of picking up a league point, but the return of Gally and the late introduction of Howie into the attack put an end to that hope. scorecard and videos photo gallery

Forthill made the long trip to Huntly on Saturday knowing that a win would give a great platform for the rest of the season with overseas player Warren Hayward set to join the team in a couple of weeks time. Never an easy place to win, the Castle Park surface proved tricky at times, and at 130-5 after 34 overs it took the experience of Bryce (62 not out) to steer Forthill to a competitive total of 193. The strong bowling line-up proved their worth as Huntly were bowled out for 140 in a great all-round display, LJ leading the wicket takers with 3-36. The "Caledonia" group winners will then go on to play in the national finals day at Poloc on Sunday 3rd August along with the winners of the three other regional competitions. The overall winners will receive £1000.

Weekend Results - 17th/18th May
Forfarshire and Forthill kept their winning runs on track with comprehensive victories on Saturday. At Forthill, centuries from Craig and Greg saw off Rossie Priory, while at Stirling a good all round team performance saw Forfarshire win by 105 runs. Forthill XI worked hard at Forthill on Sunday but came up 13 runs short of Strathearn’s 198.
Greg set about the Rossie bowling from the start, and passed 100 in the 31st over, hitting 15 boundaries along the way. When he fell for 110 in the 33rd over with the score on 189, Craig took over the lead role and quickly took his score into three figures and on to 132 not out with some big hits out of the ground in the last few overs. 46 not out from Dennis pushed the home total to 314 for 1.
Two early wickets saw Forthill quickly on top during the Rossie innings, Pratik finding movement in the air and off the wicket to bowl visiting Pro Jaman Cherry in the 3rd over. Despite the experience of Dyer (40) and McFarlane (24) along with some hitting from Turner (41) Rossie never looked like reaching their target, and the home batsmen were content on accumulating a few bonus points, Dean taking 3 for 31 and “The Beast” completing his day with a one over spell of 1 for 5 to see Rossie finish on 151-9. scorecard photo gallery
Forfarshire's first trip to the new Williamfield saw a good all round display with bat and ball, scoring 299-7 in 50 overs, Howie top-scoring with 48, along with 39 from Tom and 36 from Umair. Playing their first home game of the season on Sunday, Forthill XI kept Strathearn to 198-8, Clark taking 2 for 18 and LJ 2 for 26. Winning Weekend - 10th/11th May
Forfarshire got their SNCL season off the mark with a comfortable 8 wicket win over Penicuik at Forthill on Saturday while Forthill continued their excellent start to the season with a 24 run win over Strathmore at Lochside. Forthill XI completed the winning weekend with a 113 run win over St.Modans at Bannockburn on Sunday.
A wicket for Sam with his first ball of the 2nd over and a tight spell from Quinno put the Forfs on top early against Penicuik and although the visitors recovered to reach 89-1, it was from 30 overs. The tight bowling and fielding continued as the visiting middle order tried to hit their way out of trouble, and were restricted to 165-8, pro Ramzan top-scoring with 85 from 133 balls. Umair finished with 3-28 from 10 overs. A 95 run opening partnership between Howie (32 off 63 balls) and Ryan (92 off 99 balls) put Forfarshire on course for a win, before Tom (29 not out) secured the points.

On Sunday, Forthill XI made their first visit to Bluebellwood Park to take on St.Modans and found that a thunderstorm on Saturday night had left the wicket soft, making for tricky batting conditions. After a comfortable start from Kev and Simmy Jnr, Clark accelerated the scoring rate with a hard hit 108, bringing up his century with a straight drive for six over the pavilion end sight screen, the innings closing on 208-6. Several St.Modans batsmen seemed intent on playing agressive shots when the conditions required caution early on, so the good line and length on display from the Forthill XI bowling attack backed up by some good catching saw Forthill XI comfortable winners, as St.Modans were all out for 95.

Scottish Round 1 Win for u15's
Forfarshire u15s won their opening game of the season, a Scottish cup tie against Strathmore on Wednesday 7th May. Kevin S and Scott C were the main run scorers while the bowlers all performed well to defend the Forfarshire total of 91-6. The team now play away to Ellon Gordon or Huntly.

Christian Meets Freddie
Andrew Flintoff is now the proud owner of a 2008 Forfarshire Junior Calendar having been presented with one by Christian at the Scottish Saltires v Lancashire Lightning match held in Edinburgh on Sunday 27th April. Christian was the match mascot for the day and accompanied Saltires skipper Ryan and Lancashire’s Stuart Law into the middle to see the toss taking place, then being introduced to his hero Freddie before the start of play.
Winning Start for Forthill
Forthill got their season of to a winning start on Saturday 26th April with a 5 wicket victory over newly promoted Cupar, while Forfarshire had to be content with watching from the sidelines as their trip to Drumpellier fell victim to the overnight rain.
Cupar made first use of a good early season wicket, but Forthill’s opening bowlers were on form, and after 18 overs the visitors were in trouble at 76-6. Late order runs from Wilkinson (35), Anderson (24) and McAulay (22) turned Cupar fortunes around as they recovered to 166 all out in the 44th over, Dean collecting a well deserved 5 wicket haul. At Forthill on Sunday, Forfarshire lost to Ferguslie in the first round of the Cockspur Cup. Ferguslie chose to bat first, and an 84 run 4th wicket partnership between Hussain (80) and Kennedy (36) helped them reach 195 when they were bowled out in the 44th over, Howie taking 4 for 38.
In reply, Forfarshire lost wickets regularly and after 28 overs were 87-6, but a swift 22 from Dean in a stand of 47 with Drummy kept hopes of a home win alive. With 1 wicket left, 38 runs were needed from 33 balls, but despite some improvised stroke play from Quinno (10) the partnership ended an agonising 4 runs short of victory, Drummy finishing unbeaten on 54. scorecard

Travel Woes for Rhys
Forfarshire have signed 21 year old Tom Cooper (pictured left) as professional for season 2008. A top order batsman and off-spin bowler, Tom is currently contracted to New South Wales and represented Australia in the 2006 u19 World Cup, scoring a hundred against South Africa.
Also joining for season 2008 is swing bowler Rhys Grills from Bundaberg, Australia. Rhys arrived in the UK on Tuesday but was forced return to Australia due to problems with his visa.
Everyone at the club is delighted to hear that Rhys is making plans for a second journey in a few weeks time.
Under 11s Win Indoor League
Forfarshire's under 11 team have won the 2008 Strathmore Union Indoor League. After losing to Arbroath in the first match of the tournament, all members of the squad put in a number of fine performances to see the team unbeaten in the rest of the tournament.

AGM Report
The 2007 AGM was held at Forthill on 18th November and saw Ian Reoch appointed as President, taking over from Dick who stood down after 14 years in office, and Rae appointed as Vice-President. Drummy and Quinno continue in charge of the first team, as do Simmy and Clark for the thirds, but it's all change in the second team with Ted taking on the captaincy and Dean as vice captain.
Drummy reported on a testing year for the first team before an encouraging report from Simmy on the 3rd team where a number of players all contributing to a mid-table position.
Alan Hill reported a positive year of Junior development work, 11 primary schools having been visited by Cameron and a high number of junior matches played at all age groups. The lack of under 17 cricket was identified as a problem area for next year, and 40-over games are being sought to fill that gap. Chic reported that 2007 was a satisfactory year financially but greater use of the bar is required to aid the overall Sports Club finances.

Clubsport Indoor Sixes - Fixtures and Results
Forfarshire have made a mixed start to the 2007/8 indoor season, losing the opening fixture against Kinloch before recovering to win against Norwood. Week two saw a heavy loss against Arbroath followed by a comfortable win over High School. With one evenings matches still to play before the Christmas and New year break, Kinloch sit top of the table with a played 4, won 3 record.

2008 SNCL Fixtures
Forfarshire will travel to Coatbridge on the first Saturday of the 2008 SNCL season to take on Drumpellier, and face a second trip to Glasgow on the 3rd May to play West of Scotland.
Cockspur Cup Draw
Forfarshire have been drawn at home to Ferguslie in round 1 of the Cockspur Cup,
to be played on Sunday 27th April(new date) with the winners going on to play West of Scotland
at Hamilton Crescent on Sunday 18th May.
