Perthshire v Forfarshire Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 14 Jun 2008 at 1pm
Forfarshire Cricket Club Won 93 runs

Match report The seconds travelled to Perth on the back of their defeat to the High School knowing that only a win would do to keep the pressure on Mannofield ahead of their encounter the next week. The team remained largely unchanged with the exception of Gavin coming in for Bryce who was working.

A late arrival meant no warm up was done but we won the toss and chose to bat anyway. Warren and Wallace opened up and the runs began to flow nicely before Craig who was “seeing the ball like a football” managed to miss the football and was bowled for 5. Tony came and went for 6 to a ball that he smashed straight to point. Warren at the other end then enjoyed a good partnership with Dennis who hit the ball well straight until he was finally caught for a well made 34. Warren passed fifty with ease but had to watch as Barry and Dougie came and went for low scores. Pratik then continued his decent run of scores with a handy 18 before being bowled. Dean then watched as Warren walked for a nick down leg-side, that was going to be called a wide, for a good 82. Dean then hit out a few times before rain stopped play and we took an early tea. After eating what has to be said was the poorest tea of the season so far we returned to bat out remaining 4 overs in which saw Dean and Blackie both bowled comprehensively allowing Gav and Ted to remain unbeaten on 3 and 6 at the end of the innings for a total of 232 – 9 which always looked enough.

After a quick turn around we fielded and were on the front foot from the start. Dougie bowling down-hill, down wind (it was now blowing a gale ahead of the rain) managed to pick up 4 wickets in his first 2 or 3 overs meaning Perth were reeling at 15 – 4. Only one batsman really stuck in and made 77 after being dropped on several occasions but dug in well. Dougie finished his 9 overs for well deserved figures of 4 for 34 and could have had more on another day. Blackie then struggled to keep up his good form but managed to nick a wicket caught behind by Wallace before Ted showed how it was done with a controlled spell of flight finally finishing with figures of 3 for 20 and Pratik with 2 for 10 meaning that Perth were all out for a poor 139.

All that was left for the day was to head home and put on the shirts and ties for the cheese and wine after another fine win for the second team.
