Match report Our return to Poloc was filled with anticipation after last years victory in the Scottish Cup. The weather en route from Dundee was good but there was evidence of some passing showers. The overnight squad arrived slightly late at the ground so there was plenty time for a cinnamon swirl before the warm up. The clouds were thickening all the time and it looked like we had been lucky to miss the rain. The toss was lost and we bowled first on a pretty damp and slow looking wicket.

Sam picked up an early wicket but things quickly went downhill after that. He might have been accused of being drunk in control of a cricket ball as the second head high full toss was smashed over my head at fine leg for six. Maybe one too many Kopparberg’s the previous night!

AB bowled well and picked up a wicket, an LBW gave me one and Dynamite was able to stay awake long enough to pick up 2 wickets. It was a good spell from Deano and he wasn’t worried by the big hitting of Sajjad who really only deals in boundaries. Umi came on and bowled another excellent spell, just a couple of bad balls that were punished for 4 being the only blemishes. We had a rain break just a few overs into the game and from the time we got back on there were dark clouds lurking in the background like those seen over Mount Doom. Blackie picked up a wicket just in time for the rain to come on with a much more serious look. So there was time for another cinnamon swirl.

Tea was taken early and certainly enjoyed, but the game was effectively over as the rain continued long after Gally had eaten the last hot dog. The sun tried to break through but the damage had been done. The dark land of Mordor had claimed another game and we shall have to return through the black gate next week.
