Kinloch v Forfarshire Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sun 13 May 2007 at 1pm
Match was Cancelled

Match report It was with much anticipation that Forthill XI travelled to St Andrews to meet Kinloch in the latest round of SPU Div 1 fixtures. It was cloudy but dry at Forthill when we met and this was the forecast for the whole day so hopes were high for a game.

Home skipper Simmy was back in his usual place and seemed at ease with getting the cars organised for departure. There seemed to be little sign of his well publicised difficulties at first glance, indeed he looked resplendent in natty grey slacks and a fetching sky blue shirt and tie combo and whilst calling him the picture of health may be taking things too far – he did seem OK.

Deano also seemed in fine fettle considering it was a Sunday so it was a fit looking team that crossed into deepest darkest Fife. Following the statutory fuel stop to load up on healthy third team style pre match snacks such as Mars Bars and crisps we headed over the bridge and it was disappointing to note that someone in Fife had left the lights off and the gloom deepened as we sped towards St Andrews. One wag in the car asked if the ground had floodlights on the assumption that Walker Interiors had supplied Art Deco floodlighting to every team in the league.

With the rain now coming down we passed the Old Course hotel and speculated whether Simmy might take us there for a pre match overnight stay before future games against Kinloch to get used to the rarefied atmosphere of St Andrews.

Upon arrival at the ground the middle of the square resembled a gathering of the Fat Boy Lunatics Convention as fifteen or so portly guys were huddled around a wet piece of grass in the pouring rain apparently doing nothing. We felt obliged to join them. The news was not good as the persistent rain had rendered the strip unplayable and we were left with little option other than to turn back and head towards the bright lights of Dundee.

It did give us a brief opportunity to catch up with former team mate Kean who is now plying his trade with Kinloch which was nice.

So no game, and with next week a blank on the fixture card the Forthill boys need to wait until the home fixture against Norwood before getting back into the middle.

The Man of The Match Award will be carried over to the next game where a combo prize of a piece of marble ( courtesy of Walker Interiors) will be up for grabs along with a day’s Pedalo driving tuition.

Finally, it would appear that the Dave T Supporters Bus got lost on Sunday en route to St Andrews so if anyone see it can they let Simmy know so that he can close the file.
